For highway or cold weather riding, a fly screen / windscreen is indispensable, affordable and easy to install.
In this installation we'll be using a Cuppini flyscreen, but the installation procedure is similar for all other brands
of screens. For more information and to ask questions regarding this project visit the 'Fly screen Windscreen Installation' post found at the iVespa forum.
Start by installing the washers,' top right insert' through the openings
onto the screen, with the concave side towards the front. The blue lines
in the 2nd image below indicate the slot where the screen slips into.
The insert in image 2 shows the order in which the screen attachments
are assembled. The bottom insert shows the screen attachments assembled and inserted onto the screen.
Image 3 demonstrates how low and forward the screen sits on
the bike, depending in the direction the attachments are turned,
(Inside or Outside) when the screen is slipped onto the support
brackets.
The top of image 4 shows one support bracket completely assembled with the other showing the parts in their proper assembly order. Some fly screen or windscreen kits arrive with the support brackets already assembled. if your kit didn't just assemble them following the order shown in the image. The bottom image red circle shows the approximate space you need to leave between the expanding
bolt and nut.
Once you've assembled the brackets , you will then need to secure them
onto the bike. In image 5 you can view the slot under the bikes handlebars,
where the brackets slide into, red circle. The insert is a close up of the slot
showing the opening inside the handlebars where the screen support
brackets slide into.
Gently push the support brackets through the slots (image 6) and using your hand lightly tighten the support bracket nut. You will finish securely tightening the supports using a wrench, only after the fly screen as been slipped onto both supports.
All that remains now is to slip the screen's attachments through the
support brackets image 7. (See picture 3, regarding the direction of the
screen attachments.) After adjusting the screens position secure it by
tightening the brackets onto the supports using a screwdriver. Only
once the screen is secured in its proper position, should you apply a
final tightening of the support brackets onto the bike using a wrench,
(picture 6 insert). Be careful not to over tighten.
Congratulations, you're done!
To achieve a cleaner look, the rubber trim, from the bottom of the screen, (picture 8)
maybe removed. If you decide to remove the trim, be careful the screen
does not come into contact with the handlebar cover, or it may scratch the paint.
